Features That Didn’t Make it into Wordpress Version 2.8

Today I have upgraded my blog to Wordpress 2.8 the new version, I simply did that by clicking on the upgrade automatically button on the top of my WP control panel, this is a great thing because I remember the headaches that I had before when I was trying to upgrade my blogs, but now it’s a very easy thing, and everything went good with no problem in the upgrade process.
I have also updated CommentLuv plugin with no problems. But the real exciting thing is the Twitter Tools plugin that Liam Alexander told me about it, it’s a great plugin for sure. Twitter Tools plugin posts my tweets automatically every week as a new post on my blog, so don’t forget to follow me now @hishaman on Twitter so maybe you can get a link on my coming weekly tweeting posts.
I am going to ask you about which day do you think is the best day for posting my weekly tweets? Plz tell me what you think!

- Some default shortcodes, maybe the most popular 10 from WordPress.com
- oEmbed support, tied in with shortcodes
- Better UI for post revisions, maybe an optional field to say what changed in a version
- OAuth support
- GeoData for posts, comments, attachments, etc.
- Template tags to do everything the custom gallery on ma.tt does
- Menu editor
- Unbalanced tags across more and nextpage tags (Ticket 6297)
- Sitemaps by default
- Refresh of the importers (LiveJournal was refreshed)
- Gallery post_type
- Versioning of template edits
- Documentation links for functions used in currently edited template
- MPTT (Modified Preorder Tree Traversal) for hierarchies

I have been hesitating about moving my blog to WP. My recent needs leads me to believe that it is now time to do that. the way you may it sound easy to upgrade versions encourages me further to do so.
As far as your question about the best day for posting your Tweets. It depensd on your followers timeline. Analyze the tweets that are comming form your followers and see which “timeline” are they being more active. That should be your first best choice. Obviously you will need to eventually adjust the timeline accordingly.

I commented on another post how to style your CommentLuv last post. I have upgraded and love the new WP 2.8.
I have set my weekly tweets to be created on a Monday. It seems to work for me.

I’m waiting for a suitable time to upgrade because I have to settle some tasks first. Hope everything’s clear while upgrading.
I have two options for weekly tweets – Monday & Saturday.
Monday is the 1st day in working days while Saturday is weekend and at both days most people are facing their PCs =D

Thanks a lot for the mention, glad you’re enjoying twitter tools. I think it’s a really great plugin too. I’ve been editing mine with a read more link and an image to keep my front page clean. It would be nice if you could do thi automatically too; perhaps I’ll suggest it to the developer.
P.S. Thanks for the link on Alexander but at present it links to a ‘find insurance agents in your zip code named alexander’ page. I don’t sell insurance!

I’ve updated all my blogs after running the upgrade on my test site. Everything worked fine and I’m really happy with the new version, especially as it now shows all the comments to the relative posts when in editing mode.

I think they should include some core plugins with their download and yes the sitemap generating tool should be a standard. There are about 4 or 5 plugins that I use on every install and it would be nice to see them already in the initial package. The other one that I like to use is the analytics plugin that makes it easy to change themes and keep the same analytics code. Also, I’d like to see some sort of better thunbnail option for posts and have been using several plugins that work fine, but it would be nice to have a default.
