Is Upgrading your BlogCatalog Category Listing Worthless?

If you come cross this post by search, that probably means you are thinking about promoting your blog, or upgrading your blog category list on BlogCatalog. I will tell you about  my personal experience because I have done it my self to promote My Life Thinking blog.

As a fan of social networks and communities I have lots of accounts at the main top websites, I believe you can promote your website using the power of communities, but who ever you are and what ever your blog is about, it always depends on you being active, nothing good will happen just like that, and you will not get traffic by luck with out spending effort and time, and some times you have to spend money.

A few days back, I decided to promote my website more on BlogCatalog as I get some minor visits when I spend time commenting to discussions and inviting more friends to my group that I specially created it for My Life Thinking, and add comments to interesting blogs or review it. This time I say lets give a try to their paid service, maybe it worth.

Comparing the 2 services prices they offer, I have choose the one that meet my budget.

So I became from the top 5 listed in the Blogging category. Which will last only for one month!

BlogCatalog’s Sponsored Category program is a way for you to get more visitors to your blog by taking advantage of BlogCatalog’s traffic of over 45 million annual visitors.

That’s what they say you will get, but till now I don’t anything, I didn’t notice any visitor coming from this part of the internet till now. I am trying to cool my self and forgot that I have just lost $25 dollars, but how to make it up?

Ok.. Ok.. I have just wrote about spending offer, time and money.. why is not working? Why there is no visitors coming from BogCatalog categories?

I think people don’t care that much about categories in BlogCatalog, they just go directly to their profiles, discussions, and groups, that’s what really matters. So.. If you are a BlogCatalog member, plz tell where else you go on that community.

If you are thinking about promoting your website and get more traffic, and if you think that BlogCatalog can help you gain it, what you think after reading my post?

If you read this post because you have tried this service and got better results than mine, plz tell me about it, I think you should tell me about it, and how it works for you.

Nope. I had the same experience. My listing was only $10 any my blog is new so I figured anything was worth trying once.

I get hits off discussions, my profile, etc. but not off my directory listing.

  3. Great topic!

Back in November I purchased BlogCatalog’s premium advertising option for $60 for a new blog I had just launched. This put our new blog in the spotlight position of the category Business/Marketing. My $60 dollars bought a lousy ten clicks.

I also purchased a premium position in BlogCatalog’s category Business/Small Business for $12/month. This ad didn’t receive a single click.

It’s not a slam against BlogCatalog. Live and learn. The $72 dollar lesson taught me that social networking works best by being social not necessarily by advertising.

Interesting post. I haven’t tried it; guess I won’t. My impression from using blogcatalog is that many of the people there are interested in promoting their own blog, not in learning something from other blogs (like yours).

But I am new at blogcatalog so maybe I am missing something.

I have tried to use blogcatalog, too. I don’t think it is the best place, though I like the community. The reason I don’t think it’s best is because it doesn’t seem to give you backlinks for the search engines.

@diesel, Thank you for sharing your experience on BC with us!

one thing that I consider it a great work from BC team, is that when my birthday came they gift me a “support for BlogCatalog” badge that worth $6 per month :)

I’ve never had much luck through being a member of Blogcatalog and other such sites. Sure I get a click or two, but I get more results from being an active commentator than by being a member of these sites.

@Sire, well.. for me I get a few clicks but this is because I have to be active on the communities and social networks, also I have run a discussion group on BC called My Life Thinking!

I think that there is more to it than that. These days one needs to do some socializing and get people promoting your blog or website also. The more people that do that and provide a link on their websites the better Google and other search engines will view your importance and the higher the rankings will go and the more visitors you will get.

    It helps.
