Is your Kid a Computer Geek?

by on October 30, 2009

Smart kinds no doubt exists in this world, I am keeping wondering here about those inelegant kids that I know in my family, they are computer geeks by nature, more smart than older people, so I thought about a how kids use social networking websites and what’s their favorite computer games, and other electronic stuff that they would choose to connect to their own computers!

Personally I don’t have any kids till this moment, but I would love to have in the future, and I am sure that some of my blog readers and friends have kinds, so I wanted to make this post specially for kinds today, so you are going to tell me about their behavior on the computers, especially when they watch you work, and what they are up to specially when they have their own computer and they are intelligent enough to personalize it by their own way, for example having  Kids computer mouse attached to their own computer!

So to make this post creative, I am going to ask you now a three simple questions about your kids and their computer use (Questions are optional – you may answer one question if you like, or simply add valuable comment telling us what’s in your mind about this topic):

  • What social networks that your kids are participate to?
  • Tell me about their favorite computer games?
  • Are there any special electronic sets they love to attach to their own computer?

If you want to enhance your computer programming skills, it is wise to enroll at a computer systems institute.

Hi Hesham. To sum up, I have two Kids, one 14 Years old and the other 10. Each has his own computer (they don’t want to mess with their configuration, lol). Both like to use MSN for email, chat and talk to their friends via their web cam. They actually do not play games in their PC as they have Xbox, PSP and all that stuff.

The electronic sets that they always attach to their computers are their mobile phones (to transfer music).

That’s pretty much it.

@DiTesco, Nice to know about them :)

It’s always good to separate Games from their own PC, so maybe this will teach them that PC is not for play, which will help them to respect the computers :)

You know.. I had the chance to have a computer when I was a kid, but I was not into computer games that much, I was kind of geek myself, I wanted to be a programmer ha ha ha!

@Hicham, ha ha ha.. Yeah! I know :) but this is not bad comparing with other kids from around the world, at least they are smart at some years of their lives, others are dumb since they came to this world! Thanks Hicham for your comment.. you make me laugh!

From a very early age my kids could manage a computer but none of them really have interest in figuring out in depth ways to manipulate it. They just want to play games and once they got older they did some homework.

So true! My son has been on the computer since he was 2. He is only 5 so he doesn’t use any kind of social networking sites. He usually visits Disney.com, Pbs.org, Noggin.com. One I ran into that is AWESOME for younger children is Jumpstart.com. If you have ever heard of Second Life, it’s like sort of similar but for young children. Very cool site. The only thing he hooks up to his computer is a Fun School keyboard. It has a drawing pad attached to it and he wanted to be like Mommy. There are so many toys out there now that either hook up to the computer or allow for interaction online- it’s only expected with technology so in reach these days, he has had computer time in school since Pre-K.

I’ve no kids of my own so let me tell you about my grand kids. My nephew and niece’s kids. They started young playing MORPG. They liked Vice City, Spiderman, Halo, Prince of Persia. Now, they’re trying every game in Facebook – Farm Ville, Cafe World, YoVille, etc. One is in London, the other is in the Philippines. They talk to each other on Skype.

This week, this 10 year old kid is teaching my older sister how to operate a pc since he’d be going to London pretty soon. He’s teaching her chats, how to email, and even how to play games. My sister has no choice. She has to learn because she needs to keep in touch with her grandsons abroad. :)

Hi Hesham,

I have one kid (7 years old). I can say that he is very attached to me and to what I am doing. He has been blogging (posting his own blog with my supervision) to update his Primary One activities in school and at home. LOL !

And a few weeks ago, he finally got his Twitter account created since accordingly, he wanted to twitter with me online. :-)

And the best part, he has managed to sell 2 Ben 10 toys from the Amazon store that is linked to his blog.

Regards,

My 10-year-old kid participates in facebook games, so he definitely has a facebook account. I know, I helped him set it up.

Some games he is crazy about are Roblox, Dekaron Private, Halo, Warcraft, Counterstrike. Sometimes I worry that he spends way too much time glaring at the computer screen than playing with other kids.

For now, his allowance is not enough for him to buy the gadgets he wants. When we stroll in the mall, he points to some small wireless mouse and says it’s perfect for his hand size. As I don’t want to encourage him into further spending more time with the computer, I don’t buy him these things.

I can’t use my iphone in front of my kid, he want to get it and play with it. He already knows how to open the lock screen and open programs and games he like. the same thing happens when I use my computer I am talking about a 1,5 years old child. It is amazing how fast they learn. But in the end that’s good cause computers is the future.
